The top shelf of the rack is about 0.5" off the table, and the top of the top shelf is 2.5" off the table. The rack would not be appropriate for use in an autoclave as it is made of light-duty plastic. The trays slide into slots in the end-pieces, and it snaps together easily. It is not recommended to let it fall as it can break quickly. Users can remove the top slide to use it to store essential oil roller vials or organize fountain pens.
